How long do HP 305 inks last?

HP 305 inks can be purchased in standard black (120 prints) and tricolour cartridges (100 prints), or high capacity 305XL black (240 pages) and 305XL tricolour inks (200 prints). To give you an approximate idea of how long they will last, the black XL cartridge would last for 48 days if you printed 5 pages per day (based on ISO standards).
Depending on whether you opt for a standard or extra-large HP 305 ink cartridge, each cartridge will print a different number of pages. To help you, we've listed how many pages each cartridge will print above. Black XL inks can print up to 240 pages, whilst colour XL inks can print up to 120 pages. If you were to print 5 pages each day, they would last 48 days and 24 days respectively. HP 305 inks are intended for home-use printers, so would run out quickly if you intend to print more frequently.

HP 305 vs HP 305XL inks

You may be wondering what the difference between standard and 305XL inks is and whether they are worthwhile purchasing. The HP 305XL inks, available in both black and colour can print up to twice as many pages as the standard inks even though the cartridge is exactly the same size when placed in your printer.
As you can print twice as many pages with an XL cartridge, but the price is around 50% more than the standard HP 305 ink, it's more cost-effective to buy the XL cartridges. However, if you don't use your printer frequently, you may find that the cartridges dry up before you have completely used them. Cartridges typically last up to 2 years before drying up, so bear that in mind before opting for HP 305XL inks.

Q
How do I recycle my HP 305 printer inks?

A

There are a few ways you can recycle your HP 305 ink cartridges to help the environment and prevent them from going into landfill. You can either recycle for free with HP via the planet partners programme that allows you to recycle via post or order a recycle box:

https://www.hp.com/gb-en/hp-information/recycling/ink-toner.html

or you can recycle via one of the methods found on our fantastic recycling guide:

Q
My original cartridge came with the printer got an error of not compatible after 3 years of refilling and reusing. I'm looking for a new cartridge for my envy 6000. I wonder if your HP305 cartridge or your toner giant 305 cartridge can be refilled like my original one. Does their chip lock themselves once refill detected? Thank you.

Hi there, thanks for your question. I'm aware hat HP have really buckled down on reusing their chips and I think it would be difficult to get them to work again after refilling. For our compatible cartridges, the chips wouldn't be a problem and wouldn't lock themselves, but there's only so many times a cartridge can be reused so I'm not sure how many refills you would get from it.
