The Samsung MLT-R116 imaging unit or maintenance drum unit as it’s also known, is an important part for your printer to keep it up and running correctly. Purposely manufactured for a range of Samsung Xpress printer models from the M2625D through to the M2885FW, this product will last for up to 9000 cycles depending on the age / efficiency of your printer. Not to be mistaken with a toner cartridge, this product is a maintenance part that is used during the printing process and your printer will let you know when it comes time to replace this part.

What does the MLT-R116 imaging unit do?

Imaging units are often mistaken with toner cartridges, but be careful when placing an order as these are two very different things. Imaging or drum units are an essential maintenance part of a laser printer and as such do not need to be replaced as often as the toner cartridges.
Imaging units such as the MLT-R116 have a very specific role in the printing process. The imaging unit contains a metal cylinder that the laser beams your print out on to. This creates a static charge on the cylinder and as the cylinder rolls past the toner cartridge, the toner is attracted to it. This then rolls on to the blank paper to create your printed document. In a nutshell, the job of this product is to transfer the toner from its cartridge, on to the paper as it rolls underneath.
Is this easy to fit? If you’re worried about whether this would be easy to fit into your Samsung machine, it’s as simple as inserting a new toner cartridge. All you need to do is remove the current toner and drum and replace the old drum with the new one, then slot back into the printer. If you need any advice at all, we’d be happy to help!

Hi there, the imaging unit is quite simple and very similar to fitting a toner cartridge so no need to worry. It actually looks like this one attaches to the toner cartridge before it is inserted into the printer but you'll see if this is the case when the old one is removed.
