Hi John, thanks for your question. The drums are built into the toner cartridges for the M254 series printers so the only way to replace them is to replace the whole toner cartridge. A printer printing horizontal lines could be one of several causes but hopefully this information will help you:

How do I insert the new black toner cartridge in my M254dw?

To install the new toners, firstly take the new toner out of it's box / packaging and remove any protective strips (be careful not to touch the green cylinder) and then follow these intructions:

  1. Open the front door of the printer (there will be an indent to the top where you can pull).
  2. pull the blue handle towards you to pull the toner drawer out.
  3. Find the colour toner you wish to remove, pull its handle upwards to remove it.
  4. insert the new toner in its place.
  5. push the toner drawer back in.
  6. close the printer door.

Your HP 254dw toner will now start to initiate and install.

Hi there, the printer should display which colour cartridge is running low. You would only need to replace that colour. They are ordered on this page by packs (containing all 4 colours) first and then black, cyan, magenta then yellow (each also has the colour icon next to the image and how many pages it can print).

I have a HP Colour LaserJet Pro M 254dw. Unfortunately, I have run out of black ink as I use mostly black. Will the laserjet 252dw toner work in the printer? If not, what is compatible with M254dw. Thanks.

Hi there, you need the HP 203A or the HP 203X black toner cartridge. The cartridges that go in the HP LaserJet M252dw printer won't work in the HP M254dw printer. Do you have or will you be stocking compatible toner cartridges for the HP M255DW laser pro printer? If so, do you know how much these will be? I can't decide on this model or the HP M254DW so wanting to do the costing for the toner first. Thank you!

Hi there, thanks for your question. We will be doing compatibles in the near future but it can take around 12-18 months before they are available and I believe the M255DW printer came out at the start of this year. The prices will depend on the cost to manufacture so I'm afraid we don't know the price just yet but they tend to be about 40% - 50% cheaper. They would be a similar price to the ones available for M254DW I would imagine.

Hi there, thanks for your question. No, you can't use any other toner in a printer than the ones manufactured for it. HP 304A was made for HP Colour laserjet CM / CP series machines.
