What does the imaging unit do, and why do I need one?
Imaging units are often confused with toner cartridges because both display a number of page prints. However, the imaging unit contains no powdered toner and neither can print on their own. The job of the imaging unit is to transfer the toner powder from the toner cartridge (using the printers laser and static electricity) over to the paper, in the image of the print you have sent to the printer. Without an imaging unit, the printer would not function.
An imaging unit like the HP 120a (W1120A), can only last a certain number of print cycles before it needs to be replaced. This imaging unit will last around 16000 prints, which means you would only need to get a new one after you had replaced the toner approximately 16 times.
How to install the HP 120A imaging unit, and can I do it myself?
Installing the HP 120a imaging unit is as simple as installing a replacement toner cartridge, and has been manufactured so that you will be able to do it yourself with no issues.
To install a new HP 120a imaging unit, firstly power off and unplug your printer. Then carefully take out the toner cartridge, and the imaging drum will be sat inside the printer behind it.
