Hi, this isn't a cartridge refill. It's a refill for HP neverstop machines. It inserts directly into specific printer models and drops the toner into the printer chamber. It can't be used to refill cartridges like the 1420A.

Hi, thanks for your question. Yes, it can be done by yourself. Basically, the cartridge plugs into the port on the printer, you twist it 180 degrees and push a stopper down at the top of the cartridge and the toner goes into the printer. The instructions will be on the cartridge label to help you.
