Why is your printer printing pink?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Your printer may be printing pink as the other ink cartridges<\/a> have run out. Common printer-to-page technology processes colour in four parts; cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK), or toner<\/a>. The ink cartridges in your inkjet or colour laser printer are split up into four colours. From time to time one colour may run out before another.<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, if you’re printing a seaside setting and the sea prints a pinkish colour, your cyan cartridge may need refilling. If this seaside picture should have red beach huts, but they are now an unnatural shade of pink, you have run out of yellow ink. A modern printer will automatically try and make up the colour that\u2019s missing with what\u2019s left in the remaining coloured ink, but you\u2019ll always have a dominant colour. In this case, the dominant colour is magenta.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to fix printer colour problems<\/b><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re unable to achieve accurate colours when printing, there are a couple of easy tests you can do to determine what needs to be done to resolve the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than likely the problem will be an empty cartridge, so firstly, you should check the ink levels of your printer. You won\u2019t need to open up the printer to do this as you just need to access the printer\u2019s maintenance utilities. This can be found either through your start menu on your PC or, on the printer’s LCD navigation screen, if it has one. Where this is located does depend on the make and model of your printer. Once you\u2019re in the maintenance utilities, you\u2019ll be able to see what cartridges are low or out of ink.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the ink<\/a> levels look normal but you\u2019re still not getting the quality printing you require, it may be time to do a test print or nozzle check. From this, you\u2019ll be able to determine what colour cartridge is causing the problem as the test separates cyan, magenta and yellow apart. <\/span><\/p>\n

A test may be necessary because if you\u2019ve not printed in a while the ink in the cartridges can dry up and clog the nozzle. By doing a nozzle check, the printer will essentially clean out the nozzle, freeing it of any clogged particles. It\u2019s best to do the nozzle test last, as this can consume large amounts of ink during the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

With these simple tests you\u2019ll be able to determine which ink cartridge likely needs changing and this can, in turn, help maintain the upkeep of your printer.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to fix printer color problems<\/b><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re unable to achieve accurate colours when printing, there are a couple of easy tests you can do to determine what needs to be <\/span>done to resolve the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Replace empty or low ink cartridges.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than likely the problem will be an empty cartridge, so firstly, you should check the ink levels of your printer. You won\u2019t need to open up the printer up to do this as you just need to access the printer\u2019s maintenance utilities. This can be found either through your start menu on your PC or, on the printer’s LCD navigation screen, if it has one. Where this is located does depend on the make and model of your printer. Once you\u2019re in the maintenance utilities, you\u2019ll be able to see what cartridges are low or out of ink.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also try to print individual colours (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) one by one to see which colour is the culprit and prints incorrectly. This is the cartridge that will need to be replaced.<\/p>\n

2. Run a nozzle check \/ clean.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the ink levels look normal but you\u2019re still not getting the quality printing you require, it may be time to do a test print or nozzle check from your printers LCD menu. From this, you\u2019ll be able to determine what colour cartridge is causing the problem as the test separates cyan, magenta and yellow apart. <\/span><\/p>\n

A test may be necessary because if you\u2019ve not printed in a while the ink in the cartridges can dry up and clog the nozzle. By doing a nozzle check, the printer will essentially clean out the nozzle, freeing it of any clogged particles. It\u2019s best to do the nozzle test last, as this can consume large amounts of ink during the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

With these simple tests you\u2019ll be able to determine which ink cartridge likely needs changing and this can, in turn, help maintain the upkeep of your printer.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Run a cartridge alignment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For printers with a separate print head, colours can sometimes merge incorrectly when the alignment is off.<\/p>\n

Running a cartridge alignment process from your printer screen \/ menu will correct any issues where the colours are not quite combining correctly and may fix some of the issues when your printer is printing the wrong colour.<\/p>\n

4. Clean the printhead.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the print head has become blocked on one of the colours such as black, your printer might print pink instead of black or blue. Cleaning the print head by gently wiping with a q-tip or damp paper towel where the ink comes out will remove any dried ink blockages and can often fix the issue.<\/p>\n

5. If you have a laser printer, check the drum units.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If your laser printer is printing the wrong colour, check inside for leaked or loose toner. Drum units transfer the powdered toner to the paper and if damaged can cause the colours to print out wrong. Replacing the drums should correct the issue.<\/p>\n

6. Check your paper type.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Believe it or not having incompatible paper in your printer can cause unexpected colours to print. Different types of paper absorb ink in different ways and can cause colours to differ from what you’re printing. For best results, use paper made by the printer brand and inkjet paper for inkjet printers \/ laser paper for laser printers.<\/p>\n
