Printer and toner cartridge maker Ricoh has given its support to a declaration urging governments and corporations to do more to combat climate change.

The joint statement has been proposed by the Corporate Leaders’ Group on Climate Change, which is seeking to tackle environmental issues in the UK and around the world by lobbying authorities and working to develop more sustainable practices in their businesses.

President and chief executive officer of Ricoh Shiro Kondo said it is vital companies rethink their view of society, which is currently based on the “massive” use of energy and resources.

“This [declaration] calls on corporations to develop and establish new, innovative business models which can lead such transformational efforts in society,” he added.

It identifies seven key areas of action to be undertaken, including initiatives to encourage greater energy efficiency in business environments and more support for the development of greener technologies.

Recently, it was stated by Mike Childs, campaigns director at Friends of the Earth, that businesses must play their part in tackling climate change by ensuring their operations are as eco-friendly as possible.
